The Klondike

February 15, 2019 Jesse and his scout group headed up Fairview Canyon for an overnight camp out in the snow.  I can't believe how much snow was up there, it is insane!  Jesse said he had so much fun!  They dug out their snow caves and slept in them like real rugged and tough mountain man survivors :)

Emergency Spinal Surgery

On February 8, 2019  after Ryan’s shower, and right before bed, Ryan had excruciating back pain come on suddenly. He had a hard time breathing and couldn’t move his legs. Manti Ambulance did a fabulous job taking care of Ryan and getting him to Gunnison Hospital. After many phone calls between Gunnison Hospital, Ryan’s oncology team, neurology, and a spinal surgeon, they decided Ryan needed to be transported back to University of Utah for an emergency MRI. Gunnison ambulance was fabulous as well! The MRI confirmed a large tumor pressing on his spinal chord and was causing problems from his waist down.

Surgery was recommended, and early in the morning on February 10th Ryan rocked the OR again. Okay, he napped while the doctors did all the work, but he has been such a trooper the entire time!

The surgeon had to remove part of 3 of Ryan’s vertebra (T4, T5, and T6), and they got the entire tumor in one big sac. Bleeding was minimal and the surgeon said it couldn’t have gone any better!  So grateful for Doctor Mayhan and his team, they were exceptional!

FB update:
Ryan has not been in much pain and is in good spirits. He has been talking, laughing, and cracking jokes. Even after brain surgery two weeks ago, he is still the sharpest person in the room, and I’m not even joking! The nurses love Ryan because he is such a sweetheart! He feels so blessed and can see many small and big miracles over this last couple of days. He knows his Father in Heaven is so aware of him and that he still has work to do. He still knows that he is going to beat this cancer, even after a couple tough road blocks.

Ryan was discharged from the hospital on Feb, 12 (two days after his surgery). Again, he recovered exceptionally well.

They placed a drain in his back

Ouch!

Still smiling!

I was chasing Gunnison Valley Ambulance and made it shortly after they did

Another date night in the hospital

A video clip of Doctor Judy removing the drain.  Kind of gross!

Jesse's 8th Grade Valentine Dance

February 8, 2019

Jesse has the best group of friends and they always have so much fun together!  They all helped each other get ready for the dance and then rode in style....LOL.  I love these handsome boys so much, especially Jesse.  What a wonderful young man he is!  I could not be more proud!

Jesse has always loved getting dressed up, and he loves going to the dances!

A forced picture with his mom....hahaha.  What a good sport!

My goodness he is handsome!  He has grown up so much and all the girls are just crazy about him.  Oh, and he is pretty much crazy over them too.  He likes the ladies :)

How awesome are they?  Crazy kiddos!

Staples.... Over and Out!

February 5, 2019

Everybody had told Ryan how horrible it would be to get the staples removed from his head.  He was absolutely terrified, and all for nothing.

My Favorite Haircut Ever!

One of the biggest regrets of my youth was holding myself back because I was fearful of what others might think of me. I was scared of failure and being rejected. I didn’t embrace being different and unique, instead I wanted to be just like everybody else.
We all want to fit in and be accepted, but I didn’t learn until my 30’s just how important it is to be ourselves. My patriarchal blessing says “If I were you, I wouldn’t worry what others think so much as what the Lord thinks, that is what really counts”. I have really worked on just being my best me, and pleasing the Lord, even if it means I am different. He didn’t want us all to be the same, and I think it is so important to shine in our own way. I blossomed when I decided I would let people see the real, crazy, different, and special me. My life became happier and more fulfilling on so many levels.
If I could give one piece of advice to my own kids and teenagers out there, it would be to just go for it. Try out for that play, sing out loud, have an opinion, stand up for truth, be different and be okay with it! Be you! Say yes to things that scare you and give yourself the opportunity to grow and change. Don’t worry what others think of you. Don’t wait until you are 30 to finally be okay with who you are. Heavenly Father made you exactly the way He needed you to be, embrace it and let yourself shine. You are amazing just the way you are!

Gorgeous Amarillo

Ryan's Grandma Renie Dahlberg gave us this flower start for Christmas.  It was so much fun watching it grow so tall at a rapid pace.  When we got home from the hospital after Ryan's surgery, it was fully bloomed and oh so beautiful!

A Girl and Her Dog

Josie loves this very nasty nasty dog of ours.  He sure smells terrible, but that doesn't stop her from cuddling with him.  He was dead asleep on her neck and it really was quite cute.
