Boy Scouts Doing Their Thang at Duck Fork Reservoir (Mayfield Canyon)

September 28th and 29th, 2018

I am so grateful to the boys and leaders of this Boy Scout group.  They do so much for Jesse in helping him become the wonderful, talented, and respectful young man that he is.  When I asked Jesse how his camp out was he said "It was hard, tiring, and GOOD!"

Choose Eternity

This past month, Ryan and I have read and researched, read and researched, and then read and researched even more. We studied and studied trying to make sure that we were making the right decision, to hopefully preserve Ryan’s life.

One evening, Ryan said this “Can you imagine what it would be like if we read, studied, and researched the gospel like this every day?” We carried on with the conversation discussing how so many, including ourselves, are so willing to fight tooth and nail to fight for our earthly lives, but when it comes to fighting for our eternal salvation, it often takes the back seat on our list of priorities. I believe we should fight for both our earthy life and our eternal life, but if one were to take priority, it should be the latter, our eternal salvation.

Since our discussion, I have continued to search Amazon, trying to find the right water distiller, the right juicer, the right essential oils, vitamins, and minerals for Ryan. I have spend hours a day doing this, yet, when it comes to opening the Book of Mormon to study the gospel, I have put in little to no time each day.

This morning, before powering on the computer, I made the choice to open my scriptures and to truly study them. I did this for hours, to the point that I was completely emerged and captivated. I am always in awe at the strength of the Spirit and how it works. I should not be in awe however, because EVERY TIME I make a sincere effort, I am blessed with peace, comfort, hope, and security in a world that can otherwise feel so overwhelming and scary. The feeling is almost difficult to describe, but it is easy to recognize when you have it. You can only understand the magnitude by experiencing it for yourself. We all need it! In John 14:27 it reads “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

I know with all of my heart, that the only way to experience true peace and happiness in this life is through our loving Savior Jesus Christ, who loved us enough to die for us, so that we could return to live with Him again someday. Families can be together forever, He made that possible! Things of the world cannot give you this sort of peace, only Him.

Ryan is such an example to me and I am so grateful for his faithfulness and his eternal perspective. It provides much comfort to know that no matter what happens in this life, we can be together for eternity. There is nothing better than that! I love this man! May we all fight a little harder for our eternal salvation, for that is what it is all about folks. I love you all!

Volleyball Trip to Grand and San Juan

September 28, 2018 ....  Game in Grand
September 29, 2018.....  Game in San Juan

GO TEMPLARS!

Macie's doctor cleared her to play when she got her stitches out, but as a loving, overprotective mom, I, and Coach Palmer decided she could use a little bit more heal time.  One hand or ball to her face would set her back too far.  Way to go and participate in practices and games Mace, they could use an extra cheerleader! :)

Josie texted me this the first night: "Hey Mom, Freshman won their game!  Everyone else lost!"

I'm sorry to hear that the rest of Manti Volleyball teams lost, but HOORAY for the Freshman team!  They totally rock and are such strong players.  Most of them played together on the city league before high school, which helped a lot!  GOOD WIN GIRLS!

Macie shared a hotel room with Karra, Anika, and Georgia.

Josie shared her room with Alice, Hope, and Anneke....  They had a great time together, but I'm not sure they got much sleep!

I love this one!

Oh Girls!  :)

LIVES UNDER CONSTRUCTION

I'm so incredibly grateful for the leaders and young women that make this program possible.  It takes an army to raise up children, and I am so glad that these amazing people are a part of our army.  These girls are incredible young women and I am so blessed to have them in my life  They are examples to so many and I know their Father in Heaven is so very proud of who they are and who they are becoming, just like Ryan and I are.   Keep up the good work girls!

Manti Mountain Bike Team 2018

Jesse has found his niche!

This mountain bike team has been so wonderful for so many kids, including Jesse.  He has finally found something he loves and that he is good at.  Not to mention, it is a sport and hobby that he can do for the rest of his life.  2017 was his first season, and he has grown leaps and bounds since his first race.  Every time he rides, he gets better.  He has great coaches and an amazing group of friends.  We could not be more happy for this incredible young man.  Great season Jesse, it was an honor to watch you!

Another Great Ride!

September 22, 2018

Bright and early this morn, Jesse, Josie, Macie, Emma (Macie's best friend), and I loaded up Jesse's bike, his gear,a cooler, and hit the highway.  MOAB HERE WE COME!

Jesse took 20th place out of a little over 100 kids.  He rode amazingly well, but felt like he didn't do his very best.  Moab was HOT, HOT, HOT, and this was a tough race for the kids!  His goal for next year is to take 1st place, and I believe with all of my heart that he can do it!  We all believe in you Jesse Howick and love you very very much!

Everybody is all done racing!  I think a cool shower would feel nice right about now.

Debbie Olsen, Simeon Olsen, Jared Christensen, Kyle, Jesse Howick and Nathan Allen.
Such a great group of friends!

Great friends right here!  Jesse and Nathan!

Rocking the ride like he always does!

Jesse's race was at 9:20 am, but we stayed late to watch Nathan race.  His family was unable to make the drive and well, friends support friends.  Nathan rode 2 laps and this picture explains it all.  HE WAS BEAT!  We pulled back into Manti just before midnight, and it is always so nice to be home!

Such Troopers!

September 20th, 2018

Ryan and I had to take an emergency trip to Mexico to seek treatment for Ryan's cancer.  On our drive home (still 8 hours away), we got a phone call from Josie, that went something like this......

Me:  Hello

Josie:  Can you call Chelsey? (Chelsey Christensen is one of her leaders in the young women's program, who offered to help with the kids while we were gone).

Me: Good morning hun, what do you need me to call Chelsey for?

Josie: Mom, we need Chelsey, can you call her for us?

Me: (Getting a little frustrated at the lack of communication) Josie, what is going on?  Are you guys okay?  I can't call Chelsey if I don't have any information to give her.  What is it that you need?

Josie: We've had an accident

Me:  What?  Are you guys okay???  Where are you????

Josie handed the phone to Macie :)

Poor Josie just freezes up in stressful, traumatic situations, and can't think or communicate through them. The girls had walked to the Tabernacle for an early morning seminary fireside.  After the fireside, Macie's friend Kodie Godfrey offered the girls a ride to the school.  Kodie did not see a truck coming and they were in an accident.  We are so grateful that nobody was hurt worse.

Macie was in the front passenger side where the vehicle took the brunt of the accident.  Her injuries were the worst.  She is unsure if her head hit the side window, or if the window broke from the force, but either way, she got quite a laceration just above her eye and small ones on her forehead.

Josie hit her head on the side window and had quite a goose egg, along with a sore ankle from trying to brace herself for the hit.  After it was all said and done, Jo said "I went to get into the front passenger side, but for some reason I decided to sit in the back seat.  I don't mean to sound rude, but I am glad I traded Macie places, I don't know that I could have handled it like she did".  I'm so grateful for the Holy Ghost who prompts us to do and say certain things, and I am even more grateful that she listened to the feeling she had.  I hope these girls always listen to that still small voice, I know they will be okay in this life if they do.  I'm grateful for this gospel!

Poor Kodie felt so dang bad for causing the accident, and all 3 girls were pretty darn sore after the shock and adrenaline wore off.  Whiplash is no fun!  Hey, accidents and mistakes happen in this life.

An ambulance came and checked the girls, thanks to Frank Estey who witnessed the accident from right behind them.  He was a great help and comfort to 3 girls who had no idea what to do.  Thanks Franklin!

Tomica Boehrer rushed over to comfort and help the girls, and Tone Soper was a life saver by taking Macie to the Mount Pleasant hospital for x rays and stitches.  I don't know what we would do without all the amazing people in our lives who step up and help out in time of need.  I am so very grateful to everybody who helped out, and for the gobs and gobs of people who stopped by the house with gifts, cards, concern, and love for these incredible young ladies.  It looked like Christmas at our house when we got home, and I am not even kidding!  Between Ryan being diagnosed with cancer, and the girls' accident, the love and support was beyond incredible!  Our hearts are so full!

After the crash, Macie had blood all over herself and could see it on Kodie's arm.  She didn't recognize however that it was coming from her.  When she made the discovery, she immediately grabbed a pair of jeans from her volleyball bag, rolled them up and applied pressure to her injury.  When I talked to her later, she said "Mom, you would have been so proud!  I applied pressure just like you told me".  I indeed was so proud of her for handling a tough situation like a champ!  I love both of my girls and am so proud of who they are!  Tomica said that Macie needed an award for being so positive and happy the entire time.  Apparently she was joking in the ambulance and having a great time, while she trembled from the shock of it all (all 3 girls couldn't stop shaking).   Not one tear from Macie all day, until I got home and helped her wash the glass out of her hair, and that was only because it had been such a long day and she was beyond tired!  AND, mom was home :)

SUCH A TROOPER!

14 stitches for this gal!

Jesse is such an amazing brother and takes good care of his sisters.  I couldn't ask for better kids!

Macie texted me the picture of her and Jesse (up above) after she got home.  Her eye was swollen shut for 2 days after this.  Ryan said to text Macie this picture and to tell her that we found her twin brother.....LOL.  It made her laugh.

Healing up and looking better.  She can open her eye again, HOORAY!

4 days later she got her stitches out.  It amazes me just how quickly our bodies can heal up.  Thank goodness for that, but I am betting on a pretty good scar!  Every scar tells a story!

Macie says she like scars and kind of wants one, but she isn't sure she wants it on her face....lol

She will be beautiful no matter what!

She hated the bandage, but we had to keep the magic salve from Sister Allen on it!

Infection is the last thing she needs!

Kodie was so sweet and brought the girls over these soft blankets, along with cups full of goodies, and the sweetest letters ever!  So glad everybody was okay!

Love these Templars!

September 7th and 8th, 2018

Grandma Hatley came down to watch these cute girls play some volleyball.  They played Grand on the 7th and Josie played against Juab on the 8th.  Its been a lot of fun to watch them grow and become better players.

The Klondike

February 15, 2019 Jesse and his scout group headed up Fairview Canyon for an overnight camp out in the snow.  I can't believe how much ...
